Solution design & processes
Sometimes we find that processes have become more complicated than they need to be. We find that organisations have settled for tolerable solutions which are more palatable in the short term, but which fail to capitalise on latent capabilities and are inefficient.
Some reasons for this can be:
-
Whoever set up a particular task did not fully understand how it fitted into the whole
-
Someone settled on a solution which ‘would do’
-
Existing ways of doing things are maintained despite the new opportunities & challenges presented by new technology
-
A new system or website was specified by people who did not really realise how tasks needed to be performed
-
Sometimes people set up their own individual sub systems which duplicate what other people are doing
-
The need for changing process has never been adequately explained to key staff members
-
A member of staff lacks the confidence that they can handle the changes
-
A member of staff disagrees with the proposed changes and refuses to implement
